Dear Members of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India,

As per the Vision statement of FOGSI, we are committed towards being a lead organization, in advocating and promoting women’s health based on scientific evidence and high ethical standards.

In accordance with our vision, I am soliciting the support of all the FOGSI members to actively participate in a scientific study titled: Rapid Assessment of Knowledge and Practices regarding Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) among the Obstetricians and Pediatricians working in Private Health Care Establishments (HCE).

Inadequate maternal nutrition and inappropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices continue to contribute to the global burden of disease, including malnutrition and its consequences. While India has a highly favorable policy environment with commitments towards improving the nutrition and health status of children and women. India’s progress in this field has been below desired levels and uneven with wide interstate disparities.

We as practicing obstetricians, especially those in private health care facilities, play an influential role in maternal nutrition interventions in antenatal care (ANC), promoting, protecting and supporting optimal breastfeeding, and creating a mother and baby friendly environment.

Thus, a rapid review of current knowledge and Maternal and Infant Nutrition related clinical practices among private practitioners who are members Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) is being envisaged for enhanced understanding of the private sector care provision pertaining to Maternal and Infant Nutrition related clinical practices, and to plan future interventions for improvement effectively.

I look forward to an enthusiastic participation of all the private practicing members of FOGSI, and appeal to them for providing complete and accurate information, so as to take a crucial step towards realizing the vision of our esteemed association.
